Smart Bouys And The Chesapeake Bay
July 30, 2008
I just finished reading about a buoy system along the Chesapeake Bay that not only give you in real time, water quality, tempature and wave heights, but a historical narrative about Captain John Smith. Each bouy has a snippet of information that lasts about three minutes. It tells of Smith’s travels and experinces that took place in the vicinity of each of the bouys. Ther are now 4 operational bouys with two more to follow this fall. The two newest bouys will be placed near the mouth of the Elizabeth and Sesquehanna Rivers. You can call the bouy system on your phone 877-286-9229 or visit their website. To read the article, click here.

Chesapeake Bay Weather

It is always nice to know what the day will bring when you are planning a trip by boat on the Chesapeake Bay. You can click here to find out the latest weather forecast.
Anyone who has boated the Chesapeake Bay knows how quickly the weather can change. While on the Bay it is always a good practice to check The NOAA Weather Radio broadcast. Don’t let the weather catch you napping. One minute it is sunny with a slight cooling breeze that tempers the heat of the mid day sun. Looking off to the southwest you see storm clouds on the move. The sky grows darker, the winds whip up and the swells start to build.
